Glenrothes 1997

Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

This Scottish Single Malt was distilled in 1997, at Glenrothes in the small town Rothes in the Speyside region. Matured in a hogshead and bottled after more than 23 years, this whisky with its fruitiness and marzipan sweetness leaves a deep impression.

Glenrothes distillery, founded in 1879, has 20 wash backs made both from wood and stainless steel, as well as 10 stills. The distillery is owned by the Edrington Group (like The Macallan and Highland Park). Glenrothes malt is highly sought-after by blenders and it is, for instance, a leading malt of the blends "Cutty Sark" and "Famous Grouse".

Our personal tasting notes:

Colour: Straw in the morning sun.

Nose: Marzipan à discretion, gummi bears, bubble gum, whiff of flower meadow.

Palate: Marzipan-mania, a lot of sweetness coated with exotic herbs and white chocolate, full of character.

Finish: Long and lingering, crème brulée, herbs, pepper, anise, etc.

Verdict: A highly harmonious, elegant and multi-layered malt. Excellent representative of this esteemed distillery, and definitively worth a try.
