Glen Moray 2007

Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Whisky has been distilled at the Glen Moray distillery since 1897, with several interruptions, particularly at the beginning of the 20th century. Outturn being around 3.5 million liters today. Glen Moray may be considered as a birthplace of wood finishing, as experiments with final aging in different types of casks were carried out there very early on.

The DramCatcher bottling, however, is a classic malt matured in an ex-Bourbon cask.

The distillery is located at the western end of the town of Elgin in the northern Speyside region and is now part of the French group "La Martiniquaise", which also has the well-known blend "Cutty Sark" in its portfolio.

Our personal tasting notes:

Colour: Sparkling amber.

Nose: Very pleasant flavours of frehsly baked vanilla and apple tart. Creamy toffee notes supported by an enjoyable fruity sweetness. Fresh apple, peach, apricot, and gooseberry. Spring honey. Well integrated, almost hidden, alcohol. The addition of a few drops water brings out some herbs.

Palate: The many fruits also make an appearance on the palate and are in perfect harmony with the now discernible aromatic herbs in the background. Vanilla pudding. Very mouth-covering and creamy. Getting slightly mineral with some added water.

Finish: Long and cosily warming. The palate's impression stays confirmed. Minerally notes and a hint of aromatic pepper at the very end.

Verdict: Very nice bourbon profile, and a worthy representative of the Speyside style. A top dram for any occasion. This malt goes well in cold winter times after a fondue, and equally on a mild summer's evening.
